Overworked, overwhelmed and underpaid: the gender pay gap

The pay gap that women face is something that the world need to know. It is sad and frustrating to that as a women, I will never be enough compare to a men. It is also a difficult decision to go against what everyone tells you, because oppression has now been normalized.

Around me I saw women overworked and underpaid, doing men’s work at half men’s wages, not because their work was inferior, but because they were women. – Anna Howard Shaw

USA TODAY argued that it does not matter your age, race, ethnic background or education level if you are women you will be paid less than men. I understand that the workforce was and has always been dominated by men. Take a look back to history, women didn’t even have the right to vote. Men power is everywhere, big corporation owners are men, we have never had a female president, bosses are usually males. Maybe women don’t step up their game, or maybe men feel that they can still control women, but the fact that we do not have women on the high rankings of society puts the image that women are still weak and depending on men. This country was “founded by men,” and whenever they go to war they use sleeping women to signify weakness, is that fair? The truth is that for men, women will never live to the high standards of society. We might have hard-working females but there will always be a gap. Females have always fought for equal treatment, will there ever be the equal treatment they deserve? The answer is NO! Not until we have strong females running giant corporations or even the government. The system is built to see women fail, but why? That is a question that not even books can answer. History books are filled with white males, maybe because it is HIStory, perhaps we should change it to a story.

We can try to change the system, but eventually, the system will change us. Women are being oppressed, and the worst part is that we normalize it. There are movements and rally’s but the news channels are not involved. Basically, if the news channels were not there, it never really happened. Maybe the news channels pay a big role in this oppression, who knows, we are all too busy to think facts. The oppression only keeps getting bigger, and women still get underpaid. Sometimes I wonder what would it have been like if settles did not come to America. I mean, for the Native Americans women were equal to men, it was “the white man custom” that made women unequal. Do women deserve this oppression? No, but is it still happening? Yes, and there is a high chance that it will not change at all.

No man can call himself liberal, or radical, or even a conservative advocate of fair play, if his work depends in any way on the unpaid or underpaid labor of women at home, or in the office. – Gloria Steinem
